Parent Notification System – SchoolMessenger

Important Information for Parents and Guardians

The Rockwood Area School District uses an automated notification system, SchoolMessenger, to communicate important information to parents and guardians. This system is used to notify families of:

• School closings
• Delays
• Early dismissals
• Other important district and school announcements

SchoolMessenger delivers messages to the phone numbers and email addresses currently listed in PowerSchool.

Keeping Your Contact Information Up to Date

To ensure you receive all school communications in a timely manner, please log in to PowerSchool to review and update your contact information as needed.

• Address or phone number changes made during the school year should be reported to the school immediately.
• PowerSchool and SchoolMessenger can store up to three phone numbers and three email addresses per student. Please keep this in mind when reviewing your information.

How to Manage Your SchoolMessenger Contact Preferences

• Visit www.rockwoodschools.org
• Click on the Parents tab, then select Check Grades
• Sign in to PowerSchool using Student and Parent Sign In
• If you do not have an account, select Create Account
• From the Navigation menu, select SchoolMessenger (located at the bottom left of the screen)
• Click the menu icon (three horizontal lines) in the upper left corner
• Select Preferences
• Add or remove phone numbers and email addresses for each child as needed
• Click Save when finished

PowerSchool Login Assistance

If you have forgotten your username or password, please use the Forgot Username or Password link on the PowerSchool sign-in page.

If you need additional assistance creating an account or logging in, please contact the school at 814-926-4688.

Receiving Text Message Notifications

To receive text message alerts from SchoolMessenger:

• Enter your mobile phone number into PowerSchool/SchoolMessenger
• From each mobile device you wish to receive texts on, text YES to 68453
• Within 24 hours, you should receive a confirmation message indicating successful registration

Additional Notification Methods

The Rockwood Area School District will continue to announce school closings, delays, and early dismissals through:

• The district website
• The district Facebook page
• Local television and radio stations

SchoolMessenger serves as an additional communication tool to supplement these public announcements.
