Families of Rockwood Area School District Students,
The Rockwood Area School District informed families and employees last week about Act 44 of 2025, which requires school districts to notify employees and parents or guardians when the District becomes aware of a weapon-related incident occurring on school property, at a school-sponsored activity, or on a school vehicle.
In accordance with Act 44, we are notifying you that on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, an elementary-aged student brought a replica firearm onto a school van while being transported to a licensed private school that provides educational and behavioral programming outside of the District. The replica firearm was discovered by staff at the private school and was immediately confiscated.
No other students were on board the van at the time of the incident. This matter will be addressed in accordance with applicable state and federal laws, as well as School District policy.
The Rockwood Area School District considers the safety and well-being of our students and staff to be our highest priority, and we remain committed to maintaining a safe and secure learning environment.
